Name: Kelly Tenkely
Teaching History: 1 year as a 2nd grade classroom teacher, 6 years as a k-5 technology teacher and integration specialist.
Currently I am teaching 3-5 grade technology and acting as technology integration specialist and instructional coach for elementary teachers.
Favorite Technology: Apple specifically my MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPod Nano, Pages (the best word processor in the world), iPhoto, Firefox, Twitter, Word Press Skitch, iMovie, GarageBand, Remote Desktop (because I’m a computer teacher), the Internet…because how great is that?!, and Google Reader.
I started blogging 4 years ago, I wasn’t always the computer geek I am today…I kind of fell into the computer teacher roll and found out that I love it and that I have a passion for technology (particularly Apple!!) who knew? My goal is to help teachers fall in love with technology the way that their students have. I believe that technology reaches students in a way that few other mediums can. It ignites a fire, a desire to learn, and gives them the ability to express themselves in meaningful ways. I have never had a student who didn’t love my class…I am a good teacher but I am not THAT good, what they love is using technology to learn. So with that in mind, I set out to give teachers a resource where they could find easy-to-implement ideas for using technology in their own classrooms. This brought about my first blog, iLearn Technology, a resource for teachers.
In the past few months, I have found myself needing more space to get out my thoughts about education. I have started two new blogs, Dreams of Education will be a space for me to redefine what education and learning looks like. I am beginning the Stories of Learning blog because I am surrounded by amazing educators like Mrs. Hebert every day. My PLN (personal learning network) is made up of creative, innovative educators who are daily taking their students on adventures in learning. This blog will not be mine, it will be ours. My hope is that all of you incredible educators will help me to build it. I want your stories of learning. I want your guest posts and your cross posts. The goal here is to get a collection of excellent stories of learning from teachers around the world. I want to give teachers who are feeling uninspired, inspiration and ideas to borrow from. Please share your stories, I will post them here with a link back to your blog or website. If you are interested in participating, please contact me with your story attached.
